The Art of the Heart project was an experiential exhibit we created for St. Luke's to promote their cardiology service line. Using Microsoft Kinect technology and a custom-designed digital color wheel, people could wave their arms to create individualized “heart art” on an 11-foot heart-shaped canvas. “Artists” could then share their heart art via texting and an online gallery. Messaging set up the idea that in the hands of St. Luke’s cardiovascular experts, heart care was an art. The installation rotated between two St. Louis malls over four weekends, with print and direct mail adding additional support. During the time it was open, more than 4,000 hearts were created, an average of one heart per minute.
